How quiet this room seems
by David N. Muxo

How quiet this room seems without you,
As though the children were all gone.
Their shadows dance
Across the floor and walls.
(A lonely waltz, like planets moving through
the shallows of the universe.)

How solitary this room feels,
How cold, as though the fire had gone out
For want of you, or rather died
For wanting of your warmth.
(How the fire loved to tiptoe through
Your hair, leaving sparkles here and there!)

How solemnly this rooms awaits
Your gentle kiss to rouse it from its sleep.
How much it needs your music once again,
Your smile to chase the cold and dark.
(Your warmth will light the corners of its soul,
And how the room will dance again!)
